NEOWISE

5 October 2010

NASA’s Wide-field Infra Red Survey Explorer (WISE) received a one-month extension. Despite having exhausted its hydrogen coolant, two of its four infrared detectors remained capable in the detection of asteroids in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter, other near Earth objects and comets. This extended mission is known as NEOWISE.
